Leanna Leverich Nigon is the Director of Agronomy & Research at The Fertilizer Institute where she directs the Science and Research Program, which supports, distributes, and publicizes research focused on 4R nutrient stewardship. She also focuses on pairing research with industry needs to create meaningful 4R tools and materials for farmers and members of the fertilizer industry.
Leanna received her BS in Agronomy and Communications from University of Wisconsin–Madison and her MS and PhD in Soil Science at University of Minnesota–Twin Cities. Her research expertise is in soil fertility, with a focus on using geographic information science (GIS) and data-driven machine learning for site-specific nutrient management.
Leanna grew up on a cash crop farm in Sparta, Wisconsin, and continues to remain involved in its operation, working with her father to perform on-farm research to improve their own 4R practices. Leanna currently resides in Wisconsin with her family.
