Transportation

OVERVIEW

Farmers must be able to receive fertilizer in a safe, timely, and efficient manner because challenges such as distribution bottlenecks and service issues can restrict nutrient access during key utilization periods.

TFI supports policies that:

• Strengthen fertilizer’s global supply chain through reliable federal funding and prioritized investments to maintain and modernize road, bridge, inland waterway, and port infrastructure.

• Enable and ensure appropriate government policies and action to support and partner with the private sector on supply chain resiliency, including during natural disasters, geopolitical events, and challenges such as labor disputes and work stoppages.

• Promote an efficient and competitive freight rail system that provides reliable service at reasonable rates for all fertilizer and agricultural products.

• Protect the safety and viability of shipping for all hazardous materials products including anhydrous ammonia especially by rail and continue to ensure liability remains with carriers where risks are directly under their control.

• Ensure the trucking industry can meet the unique needs of agriculture through regulatory flexibility and modern size and weight allowances.

• Increase development of sufficient and accessible transport for natural gas, hydrogen, and carbon sequestration.
