FERT PAC is a voluntary, nonpartisan political action committee developed by TFI’s Board of Directors. Registered with the U.S. Federal Election Commission (FEC) and appropriate state offices, FERT PAC allows employees and members of TFI to pool personal, voluntary financial contributions to support candidates seeking elective office at the federal, state and local level, who support issues that are important to the fertilizer industry.
Why does TFI have a PAC?
Active engagement in the political process is an important means of protecting the fertilizer industry’s interests. Governments can decide how business is conducted and public policy decisions made in one industry sector often reverberate in many other sectors. State governments are becoming more proactive, leading the charge in legislative activity on important issues that impact our business. As a leader in our industry—and as the size and scope of government continues to increase and grow more complex—it’s critical that we be engaged and have a robust, effective PAC.
Does FERT PAC report its contributions and expenditures?
Yes. PAC operations are transparent and compliant with all applicable laws. Because they are regulated by the Federal Election Committee (FEC) and state and local election agencies, PACs are considered the most transparent form of political involvement. As required by law, PAC activity is publicly disclosed on the FEC and state election agency Web sites.
What are FERT PAC’s contribution criteria?
PAC support is based on if a candidate meets one or more of the following criteria:
- The candidate has a strong constituency relationship (the race is in a district with an industry facility and large number of employees or customers)
- The candidate holds leadership, committee or caucus status relevant to the fertilizer industry’s interests
- The candidate supports policies beneficial to agriculture.
Who can participate in FERT PAC?
All employees who are U.S. citizens or who are permanent green card holders are eligible to participate.
