The Fertilizer Institute Testifies at Second Hearing on Railroads' Common Carrier Obligation
The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) today testified before the Surface Transportation Board (STB) at a hearing on the railroads’ common carrier obligation as it pertains to the transportation of toxic-by-inhalation (TIH) materials such as anhydrous ammonia. This is the second hearing held by the STB on the issue and it provided an opportunity for TFI to stress both the essential nature of fertilizers, as well as the association’s efforts to seek a business solution to address the railroads’ concerns about transporting anhydrous ammonia. Fertilizer Industry Endows Professorship to Explore Link Between Fertilizer and Food Nutrition
The Nutrients for Life Foundation Professor of Soil and Food Crop Nutrition has been created at Oklahoma State University (OSU). The professorship, which is being funded in-part by the Nutrients for Life Foundation, The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) and the International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI), will explore the linkages between fertilizer use and the nutritional quality of food. The Fertilizer Institute Testifies on Climate Change Legislation and Energy Policy
The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) today testified before the House of Representatives Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality regarding the potential impact of climate change legislation on the fertilizer industry and its farmer customers. TFI President Ford B. West outlined the serious threat posed by bills (H.R. 1590, Safe Climate Act of 2007 and H.R. 6186, Investing in Climate Action and Protection Act) that have been introduced in the House to U.S. farmers and all food consumers in the United States and around the world. New Natural History Exhibition Reveals the Impact of Soil on All Life on Earth
There are more living creatures in a shovel-full of soil than human beings on the planet, yet more is known about the dark side of the moon than about soil. These are just a couple of the fascinating facts visitors can learn from the new temporary exhibition “Dig It! The Secrets of Soil,” open July 19 through Jan. 3, 2010 at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. TFI Responds to the Wall Street Journal Article on Fertilizer Prices
On May 28, the Wall Street Journal featured a page one article titled, “Lofty Prices for Fertilizers Put Farmers in a Squeeze.” TFI submitted a letter to the editor explaining in detail the various factors that are impacting fertilizer supply and demand. New Study Reveals Climate Change Legislation Will Have a Multi-Billion Dollar Impact on the U.S. Farm Economy
U.S. farmers’ cost of doing business could increase by 6 to 12 billion dollars as a result of new climate change regulations and rising energy prices according to a study conducted recently by Doane Advisory Services (Doane). The study, which was conducted by Doane for The Fertilizer Institute (TFI), analyzed the energy price impacts of S.3036 (formerly S.2191), “America’s Climate Security Act ” (Lieberman-Warner) on eight major U.S. crops and indicates that if enacted, the legislation will lead to a significant decline in farm income. TFI is pleased to announce the release of myRMP Suite of Retail Guidance Materials, updated compliance tools which are free to industry members. myRMP is a revised version of the Retail Guidance Document for Agricultural Retailers supported by EPA.
